An Author Visit to Your School
An Author Visit to Your School
As a children’s author and illustrator I have visited many schools. Each school visit has been a treat not only for the students by myself as well. The students respond so well to my presentation I have actually been referred to as ‘the pied piper’ by one school principal.
I present for about an hour, sometimes a bit longer. I like to keep my groups down to 2-3 classes so the students will have more an opportunity to handle my samples. I teach the students how my books and stories come to life from the moment the story comes to me via my imagination all the way to the finished product ... the book. In these presentations, I show the first sketches, markers, pencils, etc. (everything used to create the book) and encourage the kids to pass them around. I even have the original full ‘running sheet’ that came off the press for my first children’s book “Charlie’s Head...a series”. The running sheet is also known as a ‘signature’. At one of my school visits, a teacher I met was gracious enough to offer to laminate the sheet for me so it can last for years of presentations.

To schedule an author visit to your school all you need to do is reserve a date. Once you do that, I will send you a school visit package which includes a soft cover book of your choice along with coloring pages, my resume’, an order form for students to buy books beforehand, and an author/school visit contract. I encourage teachers to read the book before I visit and hand out coloring pages for the students to color before I get there. It helps when the students have colored the pictures beforehand because I do go through the coloring process in my presentation and even let them color a bit with my markers and pencils.
To reserve a date, all you have to do is click the paypal button below. You can go ahead and request a date and put down a small deposit. I will immediately receive that request and be sure to give you that date if indeed it is open. I will then contact you via the email you gave me with your request and we can further our conversation from there.
Thank you so much for giving me an
opportunity to work with you in teaching
your students. I love connecting with my
readers just as much as I love creating for them.
Sincerely,
Erin T. Whalen
